KHS seniors in Bill Irwin's "Problems of Democracy" classes watched a Civics lesson taught by Governor Ed Rendell and streamed to high schools across the state via the Internet. Governor Rendell's wife, Judge Marjorie Rendell, and PA Secretary of Education Gerald Zahorchak also participated.
Twelve high schools had live connections with the Governor via Internet2 and interacted with him by answering questions. Other high schools, including Keystone, observed the event using equipment funded by Governor Rendell's "Classrooms for the Future" initiative. Curricular materials were provided ahead of time via a wiki to prepare students for the lesson. The Governor addressed three topics: state infrastructure, energy, and funding for higher education.
Mr. Irwin's students will reflect on the activity by responding to questions on their class blog.
