Groundhog Day the High-Tech Way

Erin Zacherl's first graders at Keystone Elementary School celebrated Groundhog Day with storyteller Robin Moore. The students, however, were in Knox, PA, while Moore was in the eastern part of the state at another elementary school. So how did Moore share his stories on the history of Groundhog Day with our students? He broadcasted over the Internet using Elluminate videoconferencing software.

During the webinar, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Moore shared stories about growing up in the Pennsylvania mountains and explained how his family makes clothing from buckskins. He also told a story of how the groundhog became a prognosticator of spring!

The students enjoyed their time with Mr. Moore and look forward to their next videoconference!
