First Grade Meets Anansi the Spider

Erin Zacherl's first graders from Keystone Elementary School recently participated in "Anansi the Spider: A West African Folk Tale," a video conference presented by the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, Georgia. Keystone joined students from eight other elementary schools throughout Pennsylvania for this special event, sponsored by Magpi.

The African folk tale came alive with brightly colored shadow puppets and recorded Nigerian drumming and narration. The students were introduced to Anansi and participated in learning activities about West African food and culture. They finished this special program by making their very own Anansi shadow puppets!
